Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy

Fifty Shades of Grey - E.L. James I originally read this when it was a Twilight fanfiction, and I gave up on it 40 chapters in due to a meandering and ridiculous plot, subpar character development (even after building them on Stephenie Meyer's characters), and the ubiquitous Britishisms included in a story set in Seattle, WA. Do yourself a favor and if you must read "Fifty Shades" find the fanfiction "Master of the Universe". The author and publisher did not bother to correct the multitude of typographical errors, poor grammar, and terrible plot structure before publishing. The fanfiction was split into two parts to maximize profit, nothing more. (The third book is a repackaging of the unreadable sequel "MOTU II".)The main character Christian (Edward) possesses almost all the traits of an abuser, and Ana (Bella) is insipid, stupid and has no backbone. "Mrs. Robinson" is a child molester who has no punishment, and there is a character who walks through walls in Christian's fortress of a penthouse to terrorize the heroine. Abuse is commonplace, and the BDSM in this book violates every rule of safe, sane, and consensual play - I would warn anyone who does read this book not to try to emulate it, they could get seriously hurt. Save your money for another book not riddled with typographical errors and that has a much more coherent plot. I hate the thought that this is what the Twilight fandom is now known for, because there are far better stories and writers out there.
